GREAT NORTHWEST GROUP TO RECRUIT BUSINESSES FOR PANHANDLE
AREA 
A
group of business, academic and economic development entities
from the sixteen Northwest Florida counties that form the
Panhandle area have joined to form a new all-encompassing
economic development group named Florida's Great Northwest,
Inc.
Partners that helped form the new entity are AmSouth Bank,
Bay County Economic Development Alliance, Chipola Regional
Workforce Development Board, Gulf Coast Community College,
Gulf Power Company, Lamar Advertising, Mainline Information
Systems, Northwest Florida Economic Development Coalition,
Okaloosa-Walton Community College, Economic Development
Council of Okaloosa County, Economic Development Council
of Tallahassee/Leon County, Opportunity Florida, Pensacola
Area Chamber of Commerce, Pensacola Junior College, Primex
Technologies, SouthTrust Bank, SunTrust Bank, Team Santa
Rosa Economic Development Council, Terhaar and Cronley,
The St. Joe Company, The University of West Florida, Touchstone
Energy Electric Cooperative of Northwest Florida and the
Walton County Economic Development Council.

METAL PRODUCTS COMPANY, L.C., A SUBSIDIARY
OF SOUTHEASTERN TOOL AND DIE,
plans to open a location in the Marianna Industrial
Park. Metal Products makes components for the Trane factory
located in Lynn Haven near Panama City and plans to employ

JACKSON COUNTY'S NEWEST INDUSTRY, SYKES ENTERPRISE ON THE
INTERNET
Sykes Enterprises, headquartered in Tampa Florida, is to
soon start a technological support center in Marianna's
Industrial Park. Sykes is expected to employ over 560 people
with a payroll of an estimated $10.8 million within three
years. The proposed plant is to be located at the corner
of Caverns Road and Russell Road, which leads into the Marianna

ALLIANCE
LAUNDRY SYSTEMS, the former Raytheon Commercial Laundry,
has a web site where you can even peruse the employment
opportunities available at all of their locations, including
Marianna.
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS is undoubtedly
the largest employer in Jackson County. You can visit their

THE REGION ONE headquarters for the Florida Department
of Corrections is located in Jackson County and they are
located at: 
THE APALACHEE CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION, with two
units (East and West) at Sneads, Florida in Jackson County
is the largest institution in the Floridan Panhandle with
a capacity for 1654 male inmates, employing a staff of 569
personnel. At the institution's web site you can browse
the current inmate population, releases and any outstanding
escape warrants. 
JACKSON COUNTY CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION, located
north of Malone, Florida on State Highway 71 (not to be
confused with the Jackson County Sheriff's facility located
in Marianna) was opened in 1991 and uses a standard institutional
scheme that standardizes building locations within the institution.
JCCI employs 424 staff and has a total male inmate capacity
of 1185, including Jackson Work Camp located just north
of the facility. 
PRIDE ENTERPRISES, a non-profit corporation that
manages the State of Florida's prison industries; which
in Jackson County are all located within or out the Apalachee
Correctional Institution's West Unit. PRIDE, headquartered
in Clearwater, Florida, manages about 7,000 acres of state
land located around ACI as well as industries that manufacture
dairy products, license plate decals, mattresses and gloves,
poultry and eggs as well as sanitary maintenance supplies
employing inmates from the ACI west unit. 
FEDERAL CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION MARIANNA is part
of the Bureau of Prisons of the U.S. Department of Justice.
FCI Marianna is a medium security level for male inmates
with a minimum security camp next door for females. At the
Bureau of Prisons web site you can get employment and vendor
information as well. 
UNICOR is the trade name for Federal Prison Industries,
Inc.; which is part of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and
the U.S. Department of Justice. UNICOR, which can sell only
to Federal Government entities, has a furniture factory
and a graphics/services area at Federal Correctional Institution
Marianna. 
FORESTRY IN JACKSON COUNTY accounts for 55 percent
of the land use. There are an estimated 700 employees directly
employed in the Jackson County Forestry industry and 840
indirectly employed with a payroll worth an estimated $15
